Edward started the morning with an eye exam, and the eye doctor dilated his eyes. Jennifer drove him home afterward. She then went to her doctor's office for a blood pressure check. Because her blood pressure has been a little erratic lately, the doctor has been having her come in twice a week for a quick check. While there, they discovered she was dilated 4.5 centimeters, and told her to go straight to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Edward is at home trying to work, but mainly resting his eyes because they are still dilated. Jennifer called a friend and sent him running across town to pick Edward up and take him to the hospital. Edward is running around the house with blurry vision trying to remember everything they had planned to take to the hospital. Fortunately, he had installed the car seat just the night before!
At the hospital, the doctor broke Jennifer's water sack at 12:53pm and started her on an IV with a drug to induce labor. Edward finally got there about 1:30pm. About 4:30 or so, contractions finally began in earnest, and by then Jennifer had already dilated to 9.5 cm. After much effort by Jennifer, Alexander was finally born at 7:30 pm.
While Mom was recovering and getting stitched up, Alexander was cleaned up a little to be presentable. He got to spend an hour or two with Mom and Dad before getting whisked to the nursery for a bath and footprinting. Meanwhile, Mom was moved from the delivery room to a post-partum room, with a much more comfortable bed.
Edward made a quick trip home to close the house up, let the dogs inside, eat something for dinner, make a few calls to family, and update Alexander's web page with the news. When he got back to the hospital (around 1:00 am), Alexander had found Mom's new room and was working at feeding.
